CNC 6th Biennial Convention May 18th - 20th, 2013 Print E-mail

Delegates from coast to coast will meet in Toronto to exchange ideas on activities in solidarity with Cuba. In attendance will be guests from Cuba, including Cuba’s new Ambassador, His Excellency Julio Garmendía Peña, and consuls from Toronto, the President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship in Havana, Kenia Serrano, who heads the institute with ties to over 2000 solidarity organizations around the world. Ms Serrano will be speaking on Saturday at 4:30 pm to a public meeting at City Hall.

Also from ICAP will be Sandra Ramirez, who works for the Canada desk and spent three weeks with the 21st Che Guevara Volunteer Brigade to Cuba. This year over 40 participants in the brigade participated in the May Day celebrations and went to the Isle of Youth in Cuba. There will be a press conference with the brigadistas on May 16th at 3:30 pm at Toronto City Hall.

The Convention will have start with a Friday evening pre-convention event at the bookstore Different Booklist at 746 Bathurst Street at 7 pm. Free admission.

There will be several panel presentations: Canada=Cuba Relations, Canadian Unions and Cuban Solidarity, Economic and Social Changes in Cuba, a workshop on the Cuban Five and discussions on a Strategic Vision CNC Work Plan for the future.

Guest panellists include Professor John Kirk from Dalhousie University in Halifax, writer and researcher on Cuba, Arnold August, lawyer Juan Carranza, and members of parliament.
