This summer Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) began a fundraising campaign for a new water pump for “El Campamento Julio Antonio Mella” an international volunteer work camp in Caimito, Cuba. Many of you donated generously to this campaign which involved solidarity events, delicious pupusa and tamale sales, fundraising dinners and individual donations. After a very successful campaign the water-pump was delivered to Caimito in August!

Please join us for an evening of videos, speakers, live music and a raffle to hear about the success of this important campaign, discuss the ongoing challenges Cuba faces because of the over 50 year-long criminal blockade imposed by the United States and help us raise funds to send more aid to the international volunteer work camp so they can continue making improvements.

The event will feature:

  • EXCITING VIDEOS – about the camp in Caimito, the US blockade on Cuba and the case of the Cuban 5 held in U.S. jails
  • MARIO MENDOZA – coordinator of the campaign to take the water-pump to Cuba, who will report back on his trip
  • MARIA LUISA MELENDEZ – Salvadorean musician, will move the crowd with her beautiful music
  • NOAH FINE – Singing songs of love and solidarity
  • LOTS OF PRIZES – get ready to buy some raffle tickets, for your chance to win some great Cuban prizes!
