56 Years of Heroic Struggle! 56 Years of Historic Victories! Print E-mail

-Isaac Saney, Co-Chair & Spokesperson, Canadian Network On Cuba, January 1st, 2015-

The Canadian Network On Cuba joins with the people of Cuba in celebrating the 56th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution. Cuba celebrates the triumph of revolution on the heels of a resounding revolutionary victory: the December 17, 2014 release of the final three of the Five Cuban Heroes and the announcement by U.S. President Obama that the United States government is taking steps toward the normalization of relations with Cuba. As much as the corporate media tries, these events cannot be divorced from the profound history in which they are embedded. The freedom of Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero and Obama’s initiatives are the culmination of Cuba’s struggle for national affirmation, liberation, independence and social justice.

ICAP’s message to all fighters to free The Cuban Five Print E-mail

Dear friends of Cuba,

The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples joins the deep joy of all the Cuban people and the Solidarity Movement for the return of our heroes Gerardo, Ramón and Antonio.

Since yesterday, we have received thousands of messages and expressions of support, by different routes, addressed to the Five, their families, and the Cuban people. We share and celebrate with you this victory for justice, dignity and resistance for 16 long years.

Your contribution has been decisive and your commitment has been fulfilled. The Five are back with their families, with their people, in their homeland.

To all, our deepest appreciation and gratitude.

This great happiness should also contribute to keep us all united and mobilized. The unjust blockade against our people must cease. And there are numerous pending causes from peoples who demand the continuation of our joint efforts.

We firmly believe that you all will continue with us in the struggle for a better world.

Havana, December 18, 2014.

GLORIOUS VICTORY FOR JUSTICE! THE CUBAN FIVE ARE FREE! Print E-mail

-Isaac Saney, Co-Chair and Spokesperson, Canadian Network on Cuba, December 17, 2014 -

The Canadian Network on Cuba (CNC) celebrates with tremendous joy the release of the final three members of the Five Cuba Heroes: Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero. They had been imprisoned unjustly since 1998 in the United States for defending Cuba from terrorism, for defending Cuba’s right to independence, sovereignty and self-determination.

This is a glorious victory! It is a vindication of the struggle that the Cuban people have waged since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1st, 1959! It is a vindication of the principled and dignified politics and leadership of Fidel and Raúl! It is a vindication of the dedicated and tireless efforts of the international movement to Free the Five Heroes and achieve justice!

Nevertheless, while the CNC, rejoices on the occasion of this immense victory, the fight is not finished. The CNC, on behalf of the Canada-Cuba solidarity movement, vows to redouble our efforts to end the illegal U.S. economic blockade of Cuba and the ongoing campaign to destabilize the island, which have been in force for more than 50-years.

Long live the Cuban Revolution!

CNC campaign for Cuban medical mission in West Africa

- Isaac Saney, Co-Chair & Spokesperson, Canadian Network on Cuba, November 14, 2014 -

The Canadian Network On Cuba (CNC) is launching the Cuba For West Africa Campaign to raise funds to assist the ongoing Cuban medical missions in the West African nations of Guinea-Conakry, Liberia & Sierra Leone that are engaged in fighting the Ebola epidemic. The Cuban medical mission is by far the largest sent by any country. Standing side-by-side with the peoples of West Africa, 461 Cuban doctors and nurses – chosen from more than 15,000 volunteers - have gone to West Africa and joined the struggle against Ebola.  Jose Luis Di Fabio, a representative of the World Health Organization, underscored that  “there are more human resources from Cuba than from many, many NGOs put together.”

Resounding UN Rejection of U.S. Economic Blockade of Cuba Print E-mail

For the 23rd consecutive time the world massively rejected the  U.S. economic war against the people of Cuba. On October 28, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly condemned the U.S. economic blockade of that island nation by resoundingly voting in favour of the resolution, "Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba."  Mirroring the undiminished global outrage, the vote of the 193 UN member countries was 188 in support of Cuba, with only 2 voting in support of Washington: the United States and Israel. Three countries (Palau, Marshall Islands and Micronesia) abstained. Since 1992,  the international community has repudiated the ongoing economic aggression of the United States against the people of Cuba in these annual votes in the UN. This rejection of Washington’s diktat, graphically underscores the isolation of the empire in world public opinion.
