53rd Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution Print E-mail

Long Live the Cuban Revolution!

- Isaac Saney*, Canadian Network on Cuba, January 2, 2012 -

On the 53rd anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the Canadian Network on Cuba, on behalf of the Canada-Cuba friendship and solidarity movement, extends our warmest and most heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the Cuban people. In the 53 years that have flashed by since that glorious day of January 1st, 1959, the Cuban people have shown what is possible to achieve when one defends genuine independence and self-determination. As Cuba continues on the path of social justice, human dignity and international solidarity, the Cuban Revolution continues to be an inspiration to humanity. The example of Cuba assumes even greater significance as the second decade of the 21st century unfolds, fraught with grave dangers that threaten the well-being of the peoples of the world. In the midst of these profound challenges, Cuba refutes those who argue that relations among the world's nations and peoples are -- and can only be -- determined by self-interest, the pursuit of power and wealth. Cuba demonstrates that it is possible to build relations based on genuine solidarity and social love; it is a living example of the alternatives that permit people to realize their deepest aspirations, and that another better world is possible.

As the Cuban people confidently march forward, the CNC reaffirms its commitment to strengthen and deepen the ties of friendship and solidarity between Canada and Cuba and resolves to do the utmost to obtain justice for the Five Cuban Heroes; who so valiantly defended their country from terrorist attacks launched from the United States. In the spirits of solidarity and friendship, we join the global chorus, declaring:

¡Viva la Revolución Cubana!

Your Excellency,

The Canadian Network On Cuba greets you on the 52nd anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, which will be celebrated on January 1st, 2011 across Cuba and the globe. We extend to the Cuban people and its revolutionary leadership, warmest congratulations on this magnificent occasion. Facing many challenges, including unrelenting aggression of the government of the United States, the Cuban people have demonstrated that it is possible to realize genuine independence and self-determination. Through these 52 years of fidelity to the principles of social justice, human dignity and international solidarity, Cuba has been and continues to be an inspiration to Canadians and to all the peoples of the world.

As Cuba confidently marches forward into the second decade of the 21st century, the CNC reaffirms its commitment to work to strengthen and deepen the ties of friendship and solidarity between the Canadian and Cuban people, and resolves to do the utmost to achieve the freedom of the five Cuban Heroes unjustly imprisoned in the U.S. for defending their country from terrorism.

Once more we declare as so many have done for the past 52 years: ¡Viva la Revolución Cubana!

Isaac Saney, National Spokesperson, October 10, 2010

Since the Convention all kinds of great developments have taken place and more are planned for the months to come.  The 29th International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association was held in Toronto from October 6-9, with the participation of a large Cuban delegation (the second largest) of 74 scholars. On October 8, the Canadian Cuban Friendship Association-Toronto hosted a reception for the Cuban delegation. The highlight of the reception was the Canadian launch of Fidel Castro's book La victoria estrategica (The Strategic Victory).
