What is the “Rumbo a Cuba Initiative”?

The CIJAM camp is where international solidarity guests stay while in volunteering in Cuba. Thousands of people visit CIJAM every year, up to 500 at one time, and it has been a real challenge for the camp to provide the necessary services to its guests, especially because of the cruel US blockade. If something breaks, it is never just as easy as buying a replacement.

Following a very successful fundraising campaign where we were able to provide the camp with a new water pump, we are continuing to help the camp which is so important to Cuba and the international solidarity movement. In discussions with the camp's workers, they have told us that the most urgent needs are now a tractor and a freezer truck.

When Cuba calls, we answer! We have launched a campaign to raise the necessary funds by December 31, 2015. This is an ambitious goal, but we believe with the support we are receiving from so many groups and individuals this will be possible. Please join us!

On July 26th, 1953 a group of Cuban revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Army Barracks again the Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Although this attack was defeated militarily, taking the lives of dozens of rebel fighters and imprisoning many others, including Fidel Castro, it is seen as the beginning of the Cuban revolution. It is the July 26th Movement, named after this initial defeat, that led the Cuban revolution to victory under the leadership of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and their compañeros.

Please join us in the beautiful Trout Lake Park to commemorate the July 26th movement with an evening of dynamic speakers, poets, musicians and good food!

HUMANITARIAN AID FOR CUBA EN ROUTE WITH THE 2015 CARAVAN TO CUBA! Print E-mail

By Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba (VCSC) · Yesterday ·

Just before 5pm today, Saturday, June 27, 2015, a van full of humanitarian aid for Cuba crossed the Canada/U.S. border, breaking the illegal, immoral and unjust U.S. blockade against Cuba! This great victory was accompanied by a loud, colourful and energetic rally at the Peace Arch border crossing, which had supporters of Cuba from both British Columbia and Washington State chanting, “Lift the Blockade on Cuba NOW! Abajo el Bloqueo!” as the van full of humanitarian aid entered the U.S. customs area. Our united voices ensured that the all of the humanitarian aid, including wheelchairs, walkers, canes, sewing machines, hand tools and sports equipment continued on the road to Cuba as part of the 26th Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba.

LET'S BREAK THE U.S. BLOCKADE ON CUBA!
December 17, 2014 was a historic day, US President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro both announced the first steps towards restablishing diplomatic ties between the US and Cuba after over 50 years of US hostility towards Cuba. However, despite ongoing negotiations and some important steps forward, the US government is still refusing to lift its cruel and inhuman blockade against Cuba.

The Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba is a U.S.-based Cuba solidarity project that each summer brings humanitarian aid and U.S. citizens to Cuba to challenge the U.S. Blockade and travel ban against Cuba.

Cuba solidarity organizations across Canada have supported the Caravan since the beginning over two decades ago. Cuba solidarity activists and Caravan supporters from across British Columbia and Washington State will once again join the Caravan by supporting the border crossing at Peace Arch Park. We will be bringing humanitarian aid and Caravan participants across the U.S/Canada border on route to Cuba!

The Peace Arch border crossing has been the scene of several important recent victories against the U.S. Blockade on Cuba. Notably, the 2012 border crossing became an international event when U.S. border officials repeatedly attempted to deny our humanitarian aid from crossing the border. However, by launching an emergency media campaign, legal challenge and extended demonstration on both sides of the border we forced them to allow the aid through. We need a strong presence at the border to ensure our humanitarian aid will cross again this year!

Rain or Shine!

The event will include a potluck lunch (please bring a dish to share if you can!)

WHAT IS THE PASTORS FOR PEACE CARAVAN TO CUBA? This summer for the 26th time, the Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba will challenge the United States government’s economic and travel blockade on Cuba, that has been imposed on the Cuban people for over 50 years.

The Caravan will travel through up to 100 cities in the U.S. and Canada, raising awareness about the U.S. blockade and gathering humanitarian aid to take to Cuba. After two weeks of travelling through the U.S. there is a blockade busting border crossing into Mexico. Caravanistas will then travel through Mexico and depart for nine days in Cuba, participating in a variety of educational and cultural events.

Over the past 25 Caravans thousands of participants and over 30,000 tons of humanitarian aid have been brought to Cuba, building a ‘people-to-people’ foreign policy based on mutual respect, solidarity and friendship between the people of the U.S., Canada and Cuba.
