Intense Campaign in Washington for the Five

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 16 (acn) Friends of Cuba from various cities in the United States, Canada,  Latin America and Europe will meet on the streets of Washington from April 17th through the 21st to spread the truth about The Five.

Graciela Ramirez, coordinator of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, explained that the objective of this campaign is to attract the attention of people about the injustices committed against Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero.

Reflections by Fidel Castro:  The Wonderful World of Capitalism

The search for the political truth will always be a difficult task even in our times, when science has placed in our ands a huge amount of knowledge. One of the most important was the possibility to know and study the fabulous power of the energy contained in matter.

The person who discovered that energy and its possible use was a peaceful and amiable man who, despite being against violence and war, asked the United States to develop it. The US president back then was Franklin D. Roosevelt, a man who had adopted a well-known anti-fascist stand; he was the leader of a country that was going through a deep crisis and helped to save the nation by adopting strong measures that earned him the hatred of the extreme right of his own class. Today, that State imposes on the world the most brutal and dangerous tyranny ever known to our fragile species.

Pope Benedict XVI to Arrive in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 26 (acn) Pope Benedict XVI will arrive in Cuba this Monday after a three-day visit to Mexico, his first trip to Spanish-speaking countries since he started his pontificate.

His Holiness will be received in an official ceremony this afternoon at the Antonio Maceo International Airport in Santiago de Cuba, some 765 kilometers east of Havana City.

Cindy Sheehan Promotes Solidarity with Cuban Five in Sweden

HAVANA, Cuba, March 14 (acn) Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, from the U.S., gave a lecture in Stockholm about the case of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in her country, in an effort to raise solidarity.

Sheehan expressed her respect for the five Cubans and their families and noted that she felt attached to them right from the moment she learned about their case in an International Peace Meeting that took place in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2006, reported several media outlets.

Cuban President Meets with U.S. Senators

Havana, Feb 24 (Prensa Latina)  Cuban President Raul Castro met in this capital with two U.S. senators and exchanged viewpoints on issues of interest for the two countries.

Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont and chairman of the Senate's Judiciary Committee, and Richard Shelby, a Republican from Alabama and minority leader of the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, are visiting Cuba, as part of a delegation of Senators and Representatives of the U.S. Congress.

According to an official press release published in Havana, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez attended the meeting on Thursday.
