The Canadian Network on Cuba is holding its 7th Biennial Convention in Toronto on May 30-31st.  Delegates from the 19 member organizations from across Canada will gather at Toronto City Hall to map out plans for the future taking into account the new challenges in solidarity with Cuba.

Special guests invited to attend include ICAP Vice-president Fernando Gonzalez, one of the Cuban Five anti-terrorists released after unjustly spending 15 years in a U.S. prison.  His Excellency Julio Garmendía Peña, Cuban Ambassador will participate as well.

There will be three panels:  Planning for 2015-17 – New Challenges New Struggles; Canada-Cuba Solidarity & 70 Years of Canada Cuba Diplomatic Relations; and Cuba, Today & Tomorrow: Renewal, Change and Continuity Struggles.

On the Saturday evening, a public meeting Cuba in The Struggle for a Better World will present Fernando Gonzalez and Dr. Portilla Garcia, concluding a two-week tour across Canada.  Dr. Portilla will speak on Cuba’s humanitarian medical missions across the world.  Obama mentioned Cuba’s important role in fighting Ebola in West Africa while he was announcing the release of the last 3 of the Cuban Five and changes in U.S. failed policy toward Cuba.

On Sunday, the convention delegates will elect a new executive to carry out coordinating work over the next two years.
