Calls for End to Blockade The World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) released a declaration on October 6 demanding the immediate end of the US economic blockade of Cuba. The text, published by Juventud Rebelde newspaper, adds that the progressive and anti-imperialist youth from all over the world will express their support of the Cuban people during the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students scheduled for South Africa in December. The document reads, "The Cuban people have resisted the effects of this hideous blockade, have suffered and still suffer limitations, their economic loses of millions of dollars every year, they are prevented from accessing pills for children with cancer in a violation of international law by the imperialist and genocidal government of the United States. "It is shameful that a government with a President that was given a Nobel Peace Prize is capable of keeping its criminal policy against Cuba." In the statement, the WFDY also demand the immediate release of the five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States. The declaration concludes, "We further call upon all member and friendly organizations as the whole progressive youth of the world to express in all places possible the strong rejection of the unfair and criminal blockade against the heroic Cuban people."
